What Do I Learn on the Course?

Our beginners course takes you through the basics step by step, in a small group where your teacher knows your name. Each class is 50 minutes, once a week for five weeks.

  • Week 1: Learn how to set up on the reformer and tower, and try the basic exercises from the classical system on both.
  • Week 2: Explore the tower in more depth, and get an introduction to the high chairs and wunda chairs.
  • Week 3: Go deeper on the reformer and on the high and wunda chairs.
  • Week 4: A recap on the towers, with more practice on the chairs.
  • Week 5: A recap on the reformer, more chair practice, and time to revisit any favourite exercises you’d like to cover.

Why Take a Beginners Course?

Reformers, towers and chairs can look daunting at first. The course gives you time to learn how each piece of equipment works, with plenty of individual attention, so you can move on to regular classes feeling confident. At £99 for five classes, it works out at £19.80 per class, compared with £35 for a single class.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience?

None at all. The course is designed for complete beginners and anyone returning to exercise.

I already do mat work. Why should I come to a beginners course?

Mat work is a big part of Pilates, but the method was designed around a full set of apparatus as well. The reformer, tower and chairs use springs to give you feedback and support, so you can feel what’s working and refine your technique. The course teaches you how to set up and move safely on each piece of equipment, which is very different from lying on a mat. Your mat experience will give you a head start, and the course is the best way to build confidence before you join our regular classes.

How big are the classes?

The classes are limited to a maximum of 8 people.

How long is each class?

50 minutes

What if I miss a week?

You can attend a catch-up class at any time within your 5-week course, where space is available.

Do I have to do the beginners course before joining your regular classes?

It isn’t required, but we recommend it if you’re new to the reformer and apparatus.

What if I have an injury or medical condition?

Please email us at info@pilatesbarns.com before you book so we can talk it through and make sure the course is right for you.
